Acting head instructor for San Angelo Siete Pares Escrima, representing Siete Pares in West Texas and Dallas/Ft. Worth under Master Wes Richardson since 2015. Experience in ITF Tae Kwon Do (1st Dan), Presas Modern Arnis and Modular Self-Defense. Cross-training with Underdog MMA in boxing and catch wrestling since 2022.

Wes started training in martial arts around the age of 12 beginning with Arnis and Aikido. After graduating from Lake View High School, he joined the Navy where he was able to train with escrimadors from many different styles. He briefly trained in lameco escrima before dedicating his training to a Sinawali based art known as siete pares escrima. His instructors included maestro de maestros grandmaster Bert labitan and presiding grandmaster Nelson Estanol. Wes currently holds a Master rank in siete pares under GM Nelson Estanol

Nelson Estanol was born in the Philippines on April 29, 1945. He started practicing martial arts as a little boy of 9 years old. Besides escrima, one of the other martial arts he started practicing as a child was Shorin-Ryu Karate, one of the major modern systems of Okinawan Karate. GM Estanol's main teacher in Okinawan Karate was Grandmaster Chingi Grandeza followed by advanced school in Okinawa when he was in the US Navy, where he earned his 3rd degree black belt. Upon retirement from the Navy, GM Nelson continued his knowledge in escrima through Supreme Grandmaster Bert Labitan for 10 years and was promoted to 10th degree by Grandmaster Bert before his passing. Currently, he is the head of Siete Pares Escrima.

Maestro de Maestros

Bert Labitan, born in the Visayas, the province of Cebu, grew up in Subic City, his father hometown  once he became of age he enlisted in U.S. Navy.

In the early part of 1976, Bert stationed on board the U.S.S. Dixie and was in Subic Bay for R&R. It was during a town celebration for the farmers. He had the honor to meet Sosing Labor.

 Thus started Bert's lesson in 7 Pares Escrima. Bert trained daily with Maestro de Maestro Sosimo Labor in the fighting art of 7 Pares Escrima.  On November 30, 1994, Maestro de Maestros or Grandmaster Sosim Labor passed the stewardship of Siete Pares Escrima to Bert Labitan, Maestros or Grandmaster of the system.

History

The fighting arts of Siete Pares Escrima can be traced to a certain town in Iloilo Philippines, as practiced by seven brothers, each one fights with a different style from each other. They were the defending champions in their town for so many years, unbeatable and undefeated. Until one day a young man named Sozimo Labor or Sossing as known by his townmate of Janiway came into the picture. A prodigy of Carlos Jaranella, an adventurer and fighter who earned his skills from Cebu who travelled back to Iloilo as guerilla, a soldier of World War II and also a tournment of death fighter.

The war was over, the oldest of the seven brothers died and Sosing Labor was asked to take the leadership of the 7 Pares Escrima system. Sosing Labor then incorporated his sytle of fighting, the De Campo, Disalon and Orabis system.

Starting in the middle part of 1977, Grandmaster Labor and Grandmaster Bert Labitan forumulated what needed to be included in the Siete Pares Escrima Labor Labitan system.
 

History 2

When  the town fiesta was a few weeks away and the Americans, Filipino soldiers and guerillas were fighting with the Japanese Imperial Army in the surrounding cities, towns and islands, Sossing Labor was also honing his skill on the upcoming tournament.

The big day arrived and the tournament was bloody. Sosing Labor fought and defeated the seven brothers, thus becoming the youngest tournament of death champion in their town.

 

 

History 4

In September 1979, Siete Pares Escrima Labor Labitan system was forged by Maestro Sosing Labor and Grandmaster Bert Labitan to include the Labitan system.  In November 1994, the Siete Pares Escrima Labor Labitan system was born and stewardship and leadership of Siete Pares Escrima Labor Labitan system was turned over to Grandmaster Bert Labitan and continued the legacy of Siete Pares Escrima under Grandmaster Bert Labitan.
